Spokesperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy (Inthi) has stated that conflicts arose within the party due to an MDP’s government’s failure to take proper action to combat terrorism and religious extremism.
Speaking at a television program broadcasted by Sangu TV last night, Inthi noted that MDP members have always had differences in opinion amongst themselves – but the current conflicts within the party had arisen due to an MDP’s government’s failure to stop acts of terrorism and such.
“Most of the time, everyone has a different opinion. Some members side with the party’s Leader, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed as they are inspired by his excellent advocacy against religious extremism in the Maldives as the biggest advocate for the matter in this country. As they stand to stand by his views, such discrepancies just arise,” he had said.
Inthi also noted that conflicts also exist within the party as some members believe that it is okay to deviate from the core values of the party. Then there are members who believe otherwise – subsequently leading to disputes from thereon.
He also explained that conflicts within the party have not resulted from new members who join the party after leaving another – contrary to what many people have been led to believe. Inthi also added that such members will also be guaranteed the opportunity to advance within the party.
