Former North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahumy (Inthi) has remarked that the current administration's actions are at a point even its “good deeds” are questionable.

Imthiyaz shed light on the reforms pledged by the current administration while speaking at SSTV’s ‘Baaru Hathareh’ program on Sunday night.

In this regard, he said it has not been implemented despite talks of reducing political appointees. Meanwhile, Imthiyaz stressed that most things were happening unbeknown to the public in the “deep dark”.

“’The citizens are always in doubt because things keep unfolding in the deep dark. It is unfolding in a manner they have to doubt even if a good thing happens,” he said.

Imthiyaz also criticized the state budget passed for next year, citing political experts and opposition have stressed the budget lacked clarity.

On this note, he underscored that budgets typically outline the projects and their associated costs, which is not the case with the budget approved for next year, as it lacks details about the projects.

As such, he characterized the state budget approved for next year as one passed in a way that makes it susceptible to misuse by the government.

“The budget is extremely high. But we do know how the funds will be earned and these things. Alongside this, the projects. This budget does not detail which projects and their costs at all. I believe no previous budget in the Maldives has been formulated this way. A new way,” he said.

Opposition MDP has also raised concerns regarding the state budget passed for next year.

Imthiyaz said The Democrats is ready to work alongside other opposition parties to save the nation from the direction it is presently headed.
