A suspect has been arrested for attacking the imam of a mosque in L. Gan as he led tahajjud prayer.
The attack was carried out by a man who entered the mosque in the early hours of Sunday, as worshippers performed the tahajjud prayer (night prayer) in the mosque, located in the Aabaadhee area in Thundi district.
The man hit the imam, and threw away his mic before leaving the mosque.
Police said they arrested a 30-year-old Maldivian male in connection to the case on Sunday night.
Police arrested an Indian national for a similar altercation inside a Azeeza Mosque in suburban Hulhumale' last January. The man who attacked the elderly worshipper was later deported.
