Hulhumale' master plan wins international award

Hulhumale' master plan.

The master plan developed for the suburb of Hulhumale' in the Maldives has won the annual Honorable Mention Award in Landscape Architecture/Urban Planning award of The Architecture Master Prize handed out by The Architecture MasterPrize (AMP). 

The Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) is an international architecture awards program to advance the appreciation and exposure of quality architectural design worldwide and has been handed out since 1985. 

Regarding the award for the Hulhumale' master plan, the AMP stated on its website that the plan develops a sustainable planning framework for climate adaptation and livability to solve the problem of sea-level rise and overloaded living in the Maldives. 

AMP also added that with the combination of existing ecologic resources, the Public Service Axis and the ecologic axis, the plan provided an attractive public space and livable environments such as parks, schools, civic institutions, waterfront space.

Historical sites such as the ancient mosque in Male' will also be transferred to the Heritage Island Park, creating a vibrant place integrating history, culture, and leisure, stated AMP. 

The project has garnered multiple international accolades. Housing Development Corporation (HDC) stated that the company was targeting to develop Hulhumale as a modern population center that was abundant in services for visitors and residents to enjoy.

HDC even stated that it was conducting similar projects elsewhere in the nation under the "Beyond Hulhumale" project, through the 20-years of experience achieved by the company.
