An official from Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) told Sun the accident took place as workers unloaded a shipment of carpet rolls, and attempted to load them on to a boat using a crane.

MPL identified Imran as a worker for the Mina Investment clearance group.
The case is under investigation by MPL’s Accident and Investigation Committee. Mina Investment’s clearance group and MPL workers involved in the operation in question have been placed under suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.
