A HEOC official stated that the positive cases were detected after an inmate with symptoms later tested positive for the virus on February 1.

112 random samples collected from the prison in relation to the case had resulted in 31 positive cases.

HEOC officials confirmed that only inmates had tested positive and that they were all in quarantine.

Aminath Yusreen, Maldives Correctional Services media officer stated to Sun that checkups were being conducted daily in all prisons to detect any symptoms of the virus from anyone. No suspected cases have been identified from any other prison, according to Yusreen.
