Inmates’ futsal tournament concludes with match participated by ministers

The Inmates Futsal Tournament 2025 held at Maafushi Prison has come to a conclusion with a match participated by some cabinet ministers.

According to Maldives Correctional Service, the main purpose of holding the tournament is to foster friendship among inmates, promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage them to utilize their free time in a productive manner.

The cabinet ministers competed against the tournament's ‘Fair Play Team’ following the final match.

The cabinet ministers and senior government officials who participated in the match include:

  • Attorney General Ahmed Usham
  • Home Minister Ali Ihusan
  • Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed
  • Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam
  • Health Minister Abdulla Nazim
  • Chief of Staff at the President’s Office Abdulla Fayaz
  • Principal Secretary to the President on Cabinet Affairs Ahmed Ali Habeeb
  • Male’ City Group of Hospital’s CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq

Corrections noted that this marked the first time cabinet ministers has participated in a competition held for inmates.

Teams and players who won places in the tournament were awarded prizes. Corrections noted that cabinet ministers and senior officials from the authority spent time with inmates in a very friendly atmosphere during the conclusion of the tournament.

The authority reported that the tournament was well received by inmates, who expressed joy in participating and called for more such programs. Corrections noted that the event also reignited inmates’ hope for rehabilitation and provided them with encouragement.
