Monitoring mechanisms placed on the island of G. A. Dhevvadhoo has been lifted by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Dhevvadhoo was placed under monitoring mechanisms on January 7, 2021, due to the spread of COVID-19 on the island. In a signed announcement by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakur, the monitoring mechanisms were lifted today due to no perceived further reason to keep the island under monitoring.

Dhevvadhoo was the center of a major community outbreak of the virus in the south of the Maldives after a child in home-quarantine tested positive for the virus on December 24, 2020. Health Officials believe that the virus may have spread on the island before the first case was detected. Random samples were collected from the island after the case.

Cases connected to the Dhevvadhoo cluster were confirmed from the islands of G. A. Villingili, G. A. Dhaandhoo, L. Fonadhoo, and even the suburb of Hulhumale' in Male' City.  A total of 85 cases were confirmed connected with the cluster.
