The Economic Ministry has reversed its decision on restaurant and café’ timings in the capital so that such establishments are to be closed by 23:00.

In an announcement today, the Ministry stated that restaurants and cafes, as well as Canteens and similar establishments, are to be opened from 4:30 to 23:30. Health guidelines in place due to COVID-19 are also be implemented in these establishments when serving customers.

The Ministry had permitted cafes and restaurants to be opened from 4:30 to 1:30 on January 24. However, due to a significant increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the capital, the move coincides with the reinstatement of curfew and other health safety measures. The HPA announced the reinstatement of a curfew on the capital last night as well as the ban on public gatherings and parties such as weddings.

On average, the Maldives had confirmed 50 cases at the beginning of the year, however, the figure has now increased to 100 cases per day.
