Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has stated that the corporation will be collecting trash bags and waste from households of the capital Male' City from midnight, starting from January 15.

The corporation also stated that it's employees will be cleaning the streets after midnight as well.

In a press conference today, WAMCO Managing Director Adam Mohamed said that residents are to keep waste materials near their residences from 22:00 to 00:00. Collection of these materials will be commenced at midnight.

"Our target is to finish the collection and cleaning of the streets by the time residents wake up for the Fajr prayers. We are sure that we can provide clean roads for residents to walk to prayers," said Adam Mohamed.

Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) had previously made arrangements so that waste bags were to be placed near the residences for collection after being tightly packed between the hours of 12:00 and 14:00.

However, this has led to the issue of waste bags being left uncollected for long periods of time on the street causing odors and hygiene issues. The time change was to resolve this issue and was under discussion by WAMCO and Male' City Council.

Adam Mohamed also noted that traffic congestion was also caused due to heavy load vehicles of WAMCO and staffers working during rush hour.

Adam Mohamed said that the moves came after discussions with stakeholders and would bring a lot of strain on WAMCO employees. He requested the full cooperation of residents due to this reason.
