Minister: We will work to ensure the right to education guaranteed in act

Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali has stated that she would work to ensure the rights of all students according to the Education Act recently passed. 

The Act was only ratified last Tuesday. The Minister was speaking in a presser to provide more information regarding the Act when she said that the right to education of all students whether they are studying in a private school or public. 

“The government is providing assistance to students of private schools. We are also providing funding per head of private schools.” Said the Minister. 

The Minister said that regulations to be formed under the Act were now in the works and that it was a framework to ensure the right to education of all students in the nation. 

The purpose of the Act was to establish a system in the nation to ensure the rights of all students as well as the rights of teachers. 

The structure of the curriculum will uphold human rights with respect to the religion of Islam and the Act will focus on furthering unity and friendship. 

The Act requires students to be taught Islamic creed and Dhivehi language in all levels of education across the nation. Teachers are also required to register and obtain a license under the Act.
