Met Office expects heavy rain to affect large part of Maldives

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts bad weather to affect regions across Maldives this Sunday, with scattered rain and a few heavy showers, as well as thunderstorms.

Maldives Meteorological Service has issued white alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms to northern and southern atolls; from H. A. Atoll to Lh. Atoll, and from Th. Atoll to Addu City.

The white alert is in effect from 09:00 am to 03:00 pm this Sunday.

Surface winds are forecasted to be west/northwesterly at 8 – 18 miles per hour in central and southern atolls and north/northeasterly at 5 – 15 miles per hour elsewhere. Winds may gust 40 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are forecasted to be moderate becoming rough during showers in central and southern atolls and slight in northern atolls.

Maldives Meteorological Service has warned that wave surges are also possible in southern atolls during high tides, and have advised everyone to be cautious.
