Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer is scheduled for the official presentation of the proposed state budget for 2021 to the Parliament on Monday, November 9.
Finance Ministry submitted the proposed state budget for the upcoming year, valued at approximately MVR 35 billion, to the Parliament on Saturday.
At the parliamentary sitting on Monday morning, Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed announced that the Parliament has received the proposed 2021 budget, but that the official presentation of the budget will take place next week.
“Minister is scheduled to present the budget on Monday, the 9th of this month,” said Nasheed.
Nasheed said that as per Parliament’s regulations, parliamentarians will receive details of the budget once it is officially presented by the Finance Minister.
He added that he plans on completing work on the budget by the end of the first week of December.
The Parliament had passed a MVR 37.8 billion projected state budget for the current year. However, with the drastic hit to income and rise in expenditure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Finance Ministry has announced it will be revising the 2020 budget and resubmitting it to the Parliament.
