Police probe sexual abuse of COVID-19 patient at a facility

Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into the sexual abuse and harassment of a female patient at a quarantine facility located in Male’.

A police spokesperson said the case was lodged with the police on Sunday.

The victim is a 26-year-old woman who was moved to a facility after she tested positive for COVID-19.

The suspect is a male employee of foreign nationality at the facility, said the spokesperson.

The case is under investigation by the Family and Gender Affairs Department.
