Death of patient from Kelaa ruled as COVID-19 related, fatalities rise to 31

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has ruled the death of a 58-year-old man from H. A. Kelaa, who died while under treatment at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, as COVID-19 related, increasing COVID-19 related fatalities in Maldives to 31.

The deceased was a cancer patient, and had been undergoing home quarantine in Kelaa after travelling from India for treatment.

He was transported to the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital on Tuesday after his condition deteriorated.

He passed away a couple of hours later, at 08:15 pm.

His test results came back positive for COVID-19.

“This is considered the 31st Covid-19 death,” confirmed HPA in a tweet on Wednesday evening.

Maldives has 8,741 confirmed coronavirus cases, including 74 new cases recorded on Tuesday. 6,157 patients have since recorded.

The country currently has 2,549 active cases. 139 coronavirus patients are hospitalized.
