Parliament’s Government Oversight Committee has voted in favor of approving the appointment of Dr. Abdulla Mausoom as the new Tourism Minister.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Maumoon as Tourism Minister on August 6.

Government Oversight Committee voted in favor of approving the appointment with the unanimous consensus of seven members who attended the meeting.

Tourism industry expert Mausoom attained his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.

He served as Tourism Minister in 2008, during former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration, and as Environment Minister and as Deputy Tourism Minister.

He also serves as the parliamentary representative for Kelaa constituency, and as a Board member of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI).

He most recently served as the Maldives’ High Commissioner to Singapore, non-resident High Commissioner of Maldives to Commonwealth of Australia and as the non-resident High Commissioner of Maldives to New Zealand.

He replaces Ali Waheed, who was dismissed as Tourism Minister following allegations of sexual harassment in July.
