PG, 2 Ministers yet to submit financial statements

The Auditor General's Office has revealed that as well as the Prosecutor General, two Ministers are yet to submit their financial statements.

The Auditor General's Office published information regarding government officials who submitted financial statements and those who haven't done so yet from November 17, 2018.

Cabinet Ministers are to submit the statements under Article 138 of the Constitution. The Article makes it mandatory for Ministers to submit their financial statements at the time of taking office and annually afterward.

According to the information publicized by the Auditor General's Office, Home Minister Imran Abdulla and Health Minister Abdulla Ameen are yet to issue their financial statements since taking office. Other than the two, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem who was appointed in December last year had also not submitted his financial statement.

Two former Ministers of this administration, ex-Gender Minister Shidhaatha Shareef and ex-Tourism Minister Ali Waheed had also not submitted financial statements while they were in office.

Some Ministers that submitted the financial statements initially upon taking office have failed to submit their financial statements again on a yearly basis.

Former Housing Minister Athifa had submitted her financial statements in 2018 but failed to do so in 2019, before resigning in June 2020, citing ill-health. 

Current Ministers Aishath Nahula (Transport Minister) and Ibrahim Ameer (Finance Minister) have also not submitted their statements on an annual basis in 2019.
