Desalination plants to be built in 5 islands under Chinese aid

Maldives and China has signed a USD 11.8 million agreement to establish micro-grid desalination plants in five Maldivian islands.

The agreement was signed by Maldivian Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam and Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lizhong on Monday.

The clean energy project will see the establishment of desalination plants under Chinese aid in the islands Lh. Olhuvelifushi, K. Kaashidhoo, H. A. Kelaa, G. A. Dhaandhoo, and R. Alifushi.

The project has been contracted to Jiangsu Fenghai New Energy Seawater Desalination Development Co. Ltd.

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lizhong has stated that he is looking forward to further cooperation between Maldives and China on livelihood projects.
