Maldives Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection to the rape of a woman in the Hithadhoo district of Addu City.
The police identified the two suspects as a 30-year-old man and a 19-year-old man.
They were arrested under court order of Friday evening.
The rape was reported to the police on Friday morning.
The victim was identified by the police as a 48-year-old woman who suffers a disability.
The case is under further investigation by the police.
The rape case in Addu had come the same day as a report was lodged with the police following the sexual abuse of a young boy in another southern island. A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the case.
Maldives has recorded a rise in reports of sexual violence in recent months, sparking protests in the capital.
