Gordon Andrew Stewart, on Sunday, officially took over his responsibilities as Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL)’s new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

Stewart, a UK national, was appointed to MACL – which manages Maldives’ national airport, the Velana International Airport, on June 28.

He took over his responsibilities this Sunday with the retirement of Moosa Solih, who had served as the Acting Managing Director.

MACL has issued a company-wide circular announcing that Stewart has officially taken over his responsibilities.

Stewart has over 30 years of experience in aviation management, having served in managerial positions in the aviation industry in Europe, North America and Asia. He also has 20 years of experience serving on Board of Directors in aviation companies.

In a message to MACL’s employees, Stewart noted that the coronavirus pandemic presents major challenges to industries across the world, and especially the aviation industry.

He expressed hope of taking MACL’s activities and services to the next level with the courage and hard work of the employees despite the challenges.

“Challenges can sometimes bring positive changes in business. I note that there have been some positive changes to companies even amid the COVID-19 pandemic we now face,” said Stewart, in a message translated to Dhivehi language.

Stewart stressed on the need to adapt to the changing situation, and expressed full confidence in the capabilities of MACL’s employees to overcome the current challenges.
