The northern city of Kulhudhuffushi has experienced flooding due to heavy rain.
Kulhudhuffushi Council member, speaking with Sun, said that rains that began around 23:30 last night had continued until almost 11:00 in the morning.
“Almost the entire island is flooded. Some areas have water levels as high three feet. It is still drizzling a bit.” Said the Councilor.
The flooding had caused difficulties in the movement of people and vehicles, and MNDF is now working on pumping the floodwaters.
The Council has now established an emergency operations center to assess the damage to households as a result of the flooding. The Council requested to contact 6527178 to provide information of the damage.
The entire country is experiencing a spell of bad weather. Even now a yellow alert is in place for the regions from H. Dh. Atoll to Dh. Atoll. The Met Office warned that some islands may experience tidal waves and sea swells with winds expected at around 23-27 miles per hour and rising to 55 miles per hour during gusts.
Met office warned that waves of up to three or six feet could be experienced in some islands.
