A fire broke out in Kulhudhuffushi on Friday night, burning down a residential home in the northern city.

The fire broke out at the ‘Sameydhaan’ house at around 09:00 pm on Friday.

A family member told Sun on Saturday morning that the home completely burned down in the fire, and will need to be rebuilt.

He said that the exact cause of the fire remains unclear.

“But it was most likely because of an electrical short circuit,” he said.

He said that the house underwent renovations three years back, and was built mostly using wood.

“It had a wooden ceiling and the walls also had wood,” he said.

The house was inhabited by a male when it caught fire. He was unharmed in the incident, and is currently living in another home in Kulhudhuffushi with a family member.

The family member who spoke to Sun was unable to exactly how much it would cost to rebuild the house. But he believes it will be expensive.

“We can only rebuild based on our financial means. That was a lot of work that burned down,” he said.

The fire at the Kulhudhuffushi home was put out by firefighters from the Kulhudhuffushi Fire Station.

The incident is under investigation by the MNDF.
