Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun work on harbor construction and expansion projects in V. Rakedhoo and R. Vandhoo.

The project to design and build a harbor in V. Rakeedhoo was awarded to MTCC on October 1, 2019.

The project received Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval two months later, on December 26, 2019.

MTCC has announced it mobilized its project team to the Rakeedhoo harbor project site on Friday.

The Rakeedhoo harbor project will involve the dredging and excavation of 5,645 cubic meters of sand, the construction of a 156 meter long breakwater, the construction of a 164 meter quay wall, the construction of a 74 meter revetment, and the construction of a 429 square meter paved area and installation of harbor and navigational lights.

The project is estimated to cost MVR 18.5 million, and is scheduled to be complete on October 5.

Meanwhile, the harbor repair and dredging project in R. Vandhoo was awarded to MTCC on August 26, 2019.

MTCC has announced it mobilized its project team to the Vandhoo harbor project site on Saturday.

The Vandhoo harbor project will involve the dredging and excavation works of the harbor basin of 1,870 cubic meters, the construction of a 75 meter quay wall, and backfilling the quay wall with dredged materials and precast block installation.

The project is estimated to cost MVR 5.99 million.

The coronavirus outbreak had resulted in a halt in MTCC’s projects across the country, but the company resumed work on many of the projects in May, with the relaxation of the lockdown.
