Quran teacher under investigation for sexual abuse of multiple students

Maldives Police Service, on Monday, announced it has launched an investigation into a sexual abuse allegation lodged against a man who runs private Quran classes in an island located in northern Maldives.

The sexual abuse case was reported to the police on Saturday, June 6.

The suspect was identified by the police as a 28-year-old Maldivian male.

He has been accused of sexually abusing multiple male students under the age of 18 years.

The police have launched a formal investigation into the case, but have yet to make an arrest.

The police have stressed that sexual offenses against children are treated by the agency as serious crimes, and urge against the spread of any information which could reveal the identity of child victims.
