MTCC begins work on Hanimaadhoo harbor project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun work on a project to upgrade the harbor in H. Dh. Hanimaadhoo.

According to MTCC, the company received approval for the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) conducted for the project in early May, and launched the project and began excavating on Monday, June 1.

The project will see the dredging and excavation of 53,523 cubic meters of sand from the lagoon, the construction of a 355 meter breakwater, the construction of a 50 meter revetment, the construction of a 90 meter new groyne, construction of a 270 meter quay wall.

It also involves a 1,015 square meter paved area and lights installation.

The project is worth MVR 57.1 million and is targeted to be completed within 10 months.

MTCC said it aimed to overcome the logistical challenges associated with the domestic and international restrictions associated with the coronavirus pandemic in order to complete the project in time.
