Bangladesh has donated an additional 10 tonnes of food aid, medical equipment and medicine to Maldives to aid in its efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives.
The Bangladeshi Air Force airlifted the aid shipment to Maldives on Saturday evening.
According to the Maldivian Foreign Ministry, the shipment contains onion, egg, lentil, potato, cooking oil, pumpkin, watermelon and pineapple, in addition to essential medical equipment and medicine.
Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has thanked the Bangladeshi government and the Bangladeshi people for the donation.
He singled out Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen, and the Bangladeshi Air Force in his message.
It marks the second shipment of aid delivered by Bangladesh to Maldives, the first of which had been 100 tonnes of food, medical equipment and medicine delivered on April 22.
Foreign Ministry has announced 70 Bangladeshi workers in Maldives will be repatriated on the Bangladeshi Air Force flight. 353 more were repatriated on board a Biman Bangladeshi Airlines flight chartered by the Maldivian government earlier this Saturday.
