HC urges Bangladeshi workers in Maldives to participate in development of ‘New Bangladesh’

Acting Bangladeshi High Commissioner to the Maldives Md Sohel Parvez has urged Bangladeshi workers in the Maldives to participate in the development process of ‘New Bangladesh’.

He made the remark during a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives to commemorate the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

March 26th marks the historic declaration of Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, following a nine-month-long valiant struggle and supreme sacrifices of millions of martyrs. 

The celebrations began with the hoisting of the national flag with the national anthem by Parvez. Parvez paid deep homage to the valiant freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives and paved the way for an independent Bangladesh. He also recognized the role of the expatriate community in 1971 in developing public opinion in the international sphere for the independence of Bangladesh.

Parvez also spoke on Bangladesh’s strong bilateral ties with the Maldives, which he cited was rooted in shared values, mutual respect, and cooperation in various sectors, including education, health, trade, climate resilience.

He extended gratitude to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his greetings to his Bangladeshi counterpart and the people of Bangladesh on the occasion. Parvez also acknowledged the greetings of the Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel to the Adviser of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.

Speaking further, he urged the Bangladeshi expatriates working in the Republic of Maldives to participate in the development process of new Bangladesh. He also requested them to abide by the local law and rules properly and to work with dignity and pride. He asked the expatriates to work from everyone’s position to uplift the image of Bangladesh.

He concluded his remarks by sending Independence and National Day greetings to the Bangladesh citizens in Maldives.

Wednesday’s ceremony was attended by officials of the High Commission and members of the Bangladeshi community.
