Yellow alert issued for islands from B. Atoll to V. Atoll

Maldives Meteorological Service, on Sunday, issued yellow alert for islands from B. Atoll to V. Atoll, warning of torrential rain and heavy thunderstorms.

The yellow alert is effective from 1:10 pm to 3:30 pm.

Maldives Meteorological Service says it has observed an intense cloud formation over the area.

Meanwhile, Maldives Meteorological Service has also issued a white alert for islands from H. A. Atoll to K. Atoll with the warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusts of up to 40 miles per hour.

The white alert is effective from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts scattered rain with a few heavy showers and thunderstorms across the country.

Winds will be from west/northwesterly at 10 – 20 miles per hour in southern atolls and 6 – 16 miles per hour elsewhere. Winds may gust 40 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be moderate becoming rough during showers in southern atolls and slight becoming moderate during showers elsewhere.

Maldives Meteorological Service has warned that wave surges are possible during high tide times, and has advised caution.
