Man arrested for violating travel restriction orders

A man has been arrested for violating the orders of the Director-General of Public Health that restricted the movement of people between islands of the country.

The whole country is in a state of lockdown as authorities battle to contain the spread of Covid-19. Travel and movement of people between islands have been temporarily banned.

The man arrested today had traveled from Thilafushi to Male’ and was arrested under a court order by Police. The man has been identified as Ahmed Sinaan from Bulbulaage, G. Dh. Thinadhoo. Sinaan had admitted to violating the travel restriction orders, according to the Police.

His arrest was to discourage further blatant violations of the law during the situation with the virus in the country, according to Police.
