Maldives welcomed 18 new resorts in 2019

Tourism Ministry statistics have shown that 18 new resorts were opened in the Maldives in 2019.

According to these statistics, 139 resorts were operating in the country at the end of 2018, but the number rose significantly to 159 resorts by the end of December 2019.

A total of 146 resorts currently operate in the Maldives, amounting to 33,440 beds. Looking at guesthouses, the number of guesthouses in the Maldives at the end of 2018 was 491. The number increased to 563, indicating that 72 guesthouses were opened in the country in 2019.

Out of the 563 guesthouses, 562 are operational, which is a bed capacity of 9216.

The total number of bed capacity in the Maldives, according to the statistics published by the Tourism Ministry currently stands at 51,958.
