Man arrested after attacking Police

A man has been arrested in Male’ city after attacking a Police officer.

The incident occurred around 10:49 on January 4, 2020. The man was initially asked to stop by patrolling officers near a shop in Chaandhanee Magu for violating regulations of transporting goods on a motorcycle.

The man was stopped by officers after he failed to heed the initial request.

After being asked for the man’s identification, the man responded with expletives and foul language towards the officers and refused to provide his identification.

The man then tried to escape by ramming his motorcycle into one of the officers but was once again stopped and arrested by the officers.

Police stated that a 34-year old Maldivian was arrested for obstructing the duties of law enforcement officers. The man’s license was also suspended for transporting goods on a motorcycle.

The case is under further investigation.
