Court orders former MP to pay MVR 900,000 to STO

The Civil Court of Maldives has ordered former Villimale’ MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik to pay State Trading Organization (STO) to pay MVR 900,000 for failing to pay the rent of a harbor food court outlet he had rented.

STO filed a case against Nihan for failing to pay the rent of unit 22 of the food court and asked the court to collect the fines and payments which would amount to around MVR 1.1 million, according to the claim.

The rent of the food court unit is MVR 75, 945 per month, and STO stated that Nihan had failed to make any payments since August 2018. The agreement between STO and Nihaan was made for a period of five-years.

The verdict of the court-ordered Nihan to pay STO the rent and maintenance fee of MVR 893,901.97 due up until June 6, 2019, in addition to a fine of MVR 65,460.28. This is a total of MVR 959,362.25 to be paid within six months. Civil Court issued the verdict against Nihan in his absentia.
