An out-of-court settlement has been reached in the lawsuit filed by State Trading Organization (STO) against Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, PPM’s parliamentary group leader during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, seeking some MVR 1 million pending in dues under an agreement executed between both parties.

STO filed the lawsuit seeking to recover unpaid rent for a food court space leased by Nihan for a five-year period.

In 2019, Civil Court ruled in favor of STO, ordering Nihan to pay MVR 959,362.

Nihan appealed the case to the High Court in 2020.

Before High Court could reach a verdict in the case, Nihan had requested the dismissal of the appeal, citing an out-of-court settlement agreement had been executed with STO.

As such, the case has been dismissed by the High Court, with the unanimous consensus of all three judges presiding over the case.
