The third quarter of the Parliament saw an improvement in the attendance of MPs for parliamentary sessions when compared with the second quarter of the year.
Statistics published by the Parliament show that 39 MPs attended every parliamentary session, which is an increase from the 34 MPs recorded last quarter. A total of 87 parliamentary sessions were held in the third quarter of 2019.
The third quarter saw Thulhaadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain missing out on 13 parliamentary sessions due to official trips. North Mafaannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy also missed out on 12 sessions due to official trips.
No MPs took any leaves but Funadhoo MP Mohamed Shahid took an 11-day medical leave due to ill health and Kulhudhuffushi MP Yasir Abdul Latheef also took nine days of medical leave due to a serious accident.
The Speaker of the Parliament expressed his satisfaction with the quarter and stated that good work was done during the quarter even though it was a relatively short quarter of just 63 days. The second quarter consisted of 93 days.
MPs also worked eight-hours per day and each MP worked a total of 569 hours, stated the Speaker before saying that he believed the MP's salary was “Halal” to express that MPs deserved the high salary for the hard work.
