Severe weather conditions felt across Maldives

Maldives Meteorological Service has issued yellow alert to islands from N. Atoll to V. Atoll with the warning of torrential rain and thunderstorms.

The yellow alert was issued at 9 am this Saturday, and is in effect from 9:15 am to 1:15 pm.

Maldives Meteorological Service has also issued a white alert to islands from H. A. Atoll to Sh. Atoll and from M. Atoll to S. Atoll (Addu City).

 The while alert is in effect from 9:15 am to 3:15 pm.

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts widespread rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms to be experienced across Maldives.

Meanwhile, surface winds will vary between north-east/easterly in northern atolls and south/south-westerly elsewhere at a speed of 7 - 17 miles per hour.

Winds may gust 40 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be moderate becoming rough during showers.

Maldives Meteorological Service has advised necessary precautions for heavy rain and rough seas.
