Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thoriq has been punished for blowing a whistle inside the Parliament by the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Opposition PPM-PNC coalition MPs protested in the Parliament today regarding criticism directed towards Criminal Court senior judge Ahmed Hailam. Opposition MPs sounded whistles and made loud noises to interrupt other MPs who were criticizing Judge Hailam. Out of the opposition MPs, it was MP Thoriq who blew on the whistle.

This resulted in the Speaker ordering MP Thoriq to write “I will not blow a whistle inside the parliament” 100 times.

“I am ordering MP Thoriq to write “I will not blow a whistle inside the parliament”, 100 times,” said the Speaker. After this order by the Speaker, no sounds of a whistle was heard in the Parliament.

The criticism by some MPs of judge Hailam began before the report regarding unfinished cases in the criminal court was presented.
