The Criminal Court has fined a man who was found to be in possession of a juice packet that contained alcoholic vapor.

The man named as Ismail Nihaan from Madufehivilaa, Th. Dhiyamigili was fined by MVR 21,000 after the Criminal Court found him guilty of possessing an accessory to a crime.

The verdict by the court stated that Police had arrested Nihan and another man from the industrial area of Male’ city for suspicious behavior around 21:20 of August 15, 2019.

After the two men were detained, Police discovered a juice packet of “The Berry Company” brand from the men and a bonaqua water bottle which contained a liquid substance.

Tests of these items showed that they contained alcoholic vapor. The court’s verdict also read that Nihan had admitted to the charges and that this was the first time Nihan is convicted of a criminal offense.

The other man arrested with Nihan has also admitted to the crime. However, since the man was already under a Rehabilitation order of the Drug Court regarding a case of cannabis usage, his part was redacted from the verdict on the request of the Prosecutor General’s office for his documents.
