Transport Ministry has initiated administrative action against staff found to be negligent of their duties.
The move follows verbal warnings of possible administrative action by Transport Minister Aishath Nahula, who has accused the majority of staff at the Transport Ministry and Transport Authority of being neglectful of their duties and of gross underperformance.
It also comes after dozens of Transport Ministry staff filed a petition with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih over fears of an impending mass termination in September.
Transport Ministry has begun issuing termination notices to the staff found to be negligent. However, the exact number of staff who are being terminated is unclear at this point.
Transport Ministry, in a previous statement, announced that it planned on taking action in accordance with the Civil Service Act against staff with poor attendance records.
