The two names nominated by the President for the directors’ board of the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has been forwarded to the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament.

The President has given precedence from these two candidates to Makhzoom Saleem who is an attorney and also included the name of Ismail Sajid within those nominated for the post of Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation.
The President also sent the names of the Commissioner-General of Taxation and Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation to the Parliament today. Former Director of MIRA Fathuhulla Jameel and Assistant Commissioner of Customs Ismail Nashid were nominated for the post of Commissioner General of Taxation.

The board of MIRA consists of seven members according to the recent amendments to the administrative laws relating to taxation. The board will include an appointment relating to taxation policies made by the Minister responsible for public accounts of the state, five members appointed by the President as well as the Commissioner General of Taxation.
Previously the board consisted of five members appointed by the President with the approval of the Parliament and the Commissioner-General of Taxation and Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation.
