Aishath Nooshin Waheed has resigned as the Chairperson of the Maldives Democracy Network after heavy public criticism regarding a report named “The Preliminary Assessment on Radicalization in the Maldives” published by the organization that has been deemed as irreligious.

It is reported that Nooshin who also serves as an Anti-Terrorism Consultant at the President’s Office resigned from her post in MDN yesterday. She has been serving as a consultant since September. No reason for her resignation has been officially provided however, an MDN official confirmed that she has indeed resigned.

Nooshin had also worked in the Maldives Police Service as an Intelligence Analyst before working as a Political Science lecturer at Maldives National University.

The report by MDN published three years ago has drawn public outrage and has now been withdrawn by the organization which has also publicly apologized for the report.

The Islamic Ministry has also submitted the matter to the Police and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has advised all organizations in the Maldives to adhere to work by the government to maintain the religious unity of the country.
