Govt. begins distributing MVR 2000 per head as Zakat al-Mal

The Islamic Ministry has stated it has not set out a date for when the Zakat collected from goods (Zakat al Mal) can be distributed within the Maldives. 

The Ministry stated that this was because of complaints received regarding the list of Zakat receivers within the Maldives and resulted in the list not being finalized yet.

Around 1719 people registered to receive Zakat in Male' city and will receive around MVR 2000 per head. The Ministry today began distributing the Zakat al-Mal. Zakat will be distributed today and tomorrow at the Islamic Center Hall from 9:30 to 14:30. 

Those receiving Zakat are advised to bring their national ID card or License Card to collect Zakat. 

Zakat will be distributed outside of Male' city once the list is finalized by Island Councils, according to the Islamic Ministry.
