This year, Fitr Zakat has been distributed at a rate of MVR 4,500 per person for the 2,765 people registered on the poverty list as low-income individuals. It was also decided that MVR 500,000 will be donated to fund food supplies for Palestinian children in Gaza who are in dire need of basic necessities amid Israel's war.

Prior to this, Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has attributed the increase in Zakat payments to the establishment of a comprehensive system to pay Zakat alongside the disclosure of payments received as Zakat contributions on a monthly basis and the establishment of Maldives Zakat House.
