Fire incident in Male' city leaves one dead

The fire that broke out in a building in Male' city has now been contained. 

The fire broke out in a building in Henveiru of Male' city. Seven neighboring buildings were affected by the fire, according to MNDF. One body was found at one of the buildings that caught fire. "Sun" has managed to confirm that the body is of Aishath Shauna (49 years) from Th. Buruni, who was reported lost by her family during the incident.

MNDF  also stated that it was likely the fire was caused by a chemical storage facility and spread to the neighboring three chemical storage facilities at the location. 

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih visited the scene soon afterward before visiting those affected by the fire who are being sheltered temporarily in Kalaafaanu School. The President also visited those injured in the incident at ADK Hospital. A total of 58 people were taken to the hospital regarding the incident.

"We will be holding a cabinet meeting tonight. We will decide on how to proceed then and also on how we can prevent further such incidents." said the President. The President also stated that government ministries and institutions would be collaborating to deal with the incident. The President also visited the site of the incident. Journalists of "Sun" at the scene reported that the fire had spread fast and had affected motorcycles parked nearby at the time. 

Managing Director of ADK Ahmed Afaal informed that around six people were brought to the hospital on stretchers initially, however, he noted that this was not a confirmed number. It is also reported that an MNDF official was among those taken to hospital.

An Emergency Coordination Center has been established in Kalaafaanu School to assist those affected by the fire.
