Fire breaks out on cargo boat docked at L. Kunahandhoo harbor on July 23, 2025.
A fire broke out at a cargo boat docked at L. Kunahandhoo harbor on Wednesday.
Kunahandhoo Council President Ibrahim Shakeeb told Sun that the fire broke out on a 115-foot-long cargo boat, and efforts are currently ongoing to unload all the goods from the vessel.
He added that Maldives Police Service, Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and members of the general public are working together to control the fire.
“It is unclear why the fire broke out. It happened after the campaign and all crews had disembarked on the island,” he added.
Shakeeb added that fire has largely been brought under control. He confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
The Police and MNDF has yet to comment on the incident.
