Leader of People’s National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) says that the opposition coalition, during its recent tour of A. Dh. Atoll, found that more and more citizens were becoming disappointed in the current administration, and were instead turning towards former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Senior officials from PNC and PPM, headed by Yameen, concluded their tour of A. Dh. Atoll and returned to Male’ City this Saturday.

Adhurey, speaking to press at the Izzuddin Jetty this Saturday, said the tour’s purpose had been to assess the current attitude of citizens.

He said that he found the attitude of the people to be similar in all three local residential islands they visited.

“We saw them in a state of disappointment over the current administration. And we also so the support for President Yameen from the atolls increasing day by day,” said Adhurey.

The tour of A. Dh. Atoll marked Yameen’s trip out of the capital atoll since his election defeat to current President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in 2018.

Speaking to press before embarking on his tour on Thursday, Yameen said that the main purpose of the tour was to hold the current administration more accountable for its actions.

“This is work to hold the administration accountable. This tour, In Sha Allah, is a tour to strengthen the party and win as many seats as possible in the upcoming local council elections,” said Yameen. “But it’s more to hold the current administration accountable, than [to win] the local council elections.”

Yameen, in a surprise move, was also accompanied on the tour by former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, who serves as advisor to Qasim Ibrahim, the leader of government coalition partner Jumhoory Party (JP).

The opposition coalition visited A. Dh. Mahibadhoo, A. Dh. Kunburudhoo, and A. Dh. Dhangethi; and has announced plans to tour another atoll this coming week.
