Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassanhas stated that the increase in the number of unemployed youths in the country was a concerning issue.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Maldives Enhancing Employability and Resilience of Youth Projects, Minister stated that it was a concern for every single individual when the number of unemployed youths increases in the country and that its negative effects will affect the community. The Minister also warned that it would lead to a fall in the living standards and a rise in crime.
He also stated that the government was working nonstop to ensure that the youths of today are responsible and that the project initiated today was aimed at opening up opportunities for youths.
The project will teach skills for youths to gain employment with a good income and build businesses with young people at the helm.
"The focus will be on enabling youths to gain training in ICT, tourism and construction sector all over the country," said the Minister. The Minister also highlighted the importance of the Entrepreneurship supports facilities and the need to support those facilities to build the role of youth in developing the economy.
USD 10 million from the USD 20million project conducted by the Education and Economic Ministry is provided by the World Bank. The stories of some notable young entrepreneurs in the country were also shared at the event today.
