The State’s pilot school breakfast program will be expanded and re-launched to cover all public schools this coming Tuesday, reports Ministry of Education.

The breakfast program had been scheduled for implementation at all public schools as soon as the second term began, but was postponed to Tuesday, June 11, as the beginning of the second school term had fallen in the middle of the six days of fasting during Shawwal.

The pilot school breakfast program was launched on January 13, 2019 at 25 public schools.

Students from 213 public schools – including the 188 public schools which weren’t selected for the pilot program - will receive breakfast under the program starting from Tuesday.

The breakfast program has set menus for each day of the week. Some of the main items in the menu include: roshi or bread with green leaf mashuni, pumpkin mashuni, eggplant mashuni, baked beans; or tuna sandwich, cheese sandwich, or peanut butter sandwich, along with an omelet and milk.

Ministry of Education reports it has noticed an overall improvement in attendance since the breakfast program began.
