Dhiraagu, under its Digital Raajje Initiative, has established wifi hotspots at parks and other public locations throughout Male’ City, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’.
The project was launched at a ceremony held at Rasrani Bageecha this Sunday morning by CEO and Managing Director of Dhiraagu, Ismail Rasheed, and Male’ City Major Shifa Mohamed.
Speaking at the launch, CEO Ismail Rasheed said the telecom company put continuous effort into increasing internet accessibility and improving the quality of its internet service.
“The mission is to make arrangements so internet is available at convenience from anywhere, from any island and from any region,” said Ismail, noting that public parks were popular gathering spots, ensuring that its wifi hotspots benefit a large number of people on a daily basis.
Ismail said that internet was a basic service, and that it was Dhiraagu’s top priority to improve both accessibility and convenience.
In his speech, he thanked the Male’ City Council, which’s cooperation he said played a key role ensuring the launch of the new service.
Mayor Shifa also stressed that internet was a basic service which people depended on for daily life. He urged the public to use the new service responsibly.
Dhiraagu reports it has installed display boards to indicate the availability of its wifi service at public parks. Customers will receive up to 30 minutes of free wifi. They have the option of choosing an add-on once the 100 mb service runs out.
Once a customer connects to the Dhiraagu wifi hotspot, a log-in page will pop up. Customers are required to key in their mobile number and an OTP in order to log-in and gain access to the service.
Dhiraagu, under its Digital Raajje Initiative, has introduced fiber internet broadband service to 75 percent of Maldives.
