Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation following report of a nine-year-old girl who was sexually abused by her two elder brothers.
Maldives Police Service says the case was reported to the agency from an island in the atolls at 10:40 pm on May 10.
The name of the island has not been released so as to protect the identity of the child victim.
Maldives Police Service confirms the suspects in the case are a 13-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy – who are the brothers of the nine-year-old victim.
Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services reports the nine-year-old girl has been moved out of her home “to a safe environment”.
