Ooredoo, Dhiraagu announces special rate for calls to Sri Lanka

Telecom companies Ooredoo and Dhiraagu has announced a special rate for outgoing calls to Sri Lanka.

The special rate was announced for the convenience of Maldivians who wish to contact their loved ones in Sri Lanka – which was hit by multiple bombings this Sunday.

Both Ooredoo and Dhiraagu reports it will charge MVR 1 per minute for outgoing calls to Sri Lanka until midnight this Sunday.

The two companies, in their announcements, conveyed their sympathies to everyone affected by the bombings.

At least 160 people are reported dead and hundreds injured in bombings in three churches and three hotels in Sri Lanka.

Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has issued a statement condemning “the cowardly act of terror”. He also pledged the support of Maldives to Sri Lanka and conveyed his sympathies to everyone affected by the bombings.

Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka urges all Maldivian citizens in Sri Lanka to remain indoors and refrain from venturing out into areas affected by the bombings.
